Are you seeking for a web designer? And you`re absolutely sure of that? Or maybe you`re looking for a web developer, but not a designer? Puzzling, isn`t it?
Don`t get embarrassed! I`ll help you to become aware of who you really need.
Is there a difference?
DevOp-specialist.
IT sphere is a very popular area among a lot of IT specialists. There is a tendency for DevOp-methodology, when a programmer or designer is capable to produce a quality good, performing different functions from various spheres in IT. In this way a designer has the ability to code his own ideas and make ideas come true without a developer`s help. And otherwise, a dev programmer doesn`t need a designer`s guidance. Those two dudes are so cool that they can be a developer and a designer at once. So in this specter we even don`t need to distinguish those two specialties (a developer is now a designer-developer at once and otherwise. So whatever!). But…
Who is who? Who is the right person for the job?
There still exists a developer and a designer apart from each other. Thus we have a question who do you need for your project.
A web designer is a bright, smart and modern brainstorm creator. This is the very person, who flashes ideas about a perfect look of the product, the customer orders. A designer takes care of the color, size, balanced layout, textures, shapes. Web design creator knows everything about emphasis the product should have, a load of web design principles like rhythm and consistency, unity and composition and others. The questions about the variety of categories or grouping elements, highlighted units or certain dynamic parts of a product are all about web design. Designer knows only how the whole picture should look. And he knows nothing how to embody all that cool staff he genially imagined. The answer to this question can give a developer.
Web development is all about a functional staff and usability issues. A programmer usually fulfills designer`s ideas and thoughts. Code is the main language to realize customer`s order. Developer takes the scheme of design and tries to make it as easy to use as possible. To do the task a developer needs methodological and logical set of mind, while a designer uses a creative one. Which button will link to this, and which button will depict that…-is the developer mission.
Shortly and creatively.
Web designer:
- Creative set of mind;
- Architect of the web;
- In tune with the right hemisphere of the brain;
- Great power of intuition and imagination;
- Focuses on look and feel of the website.
Web developer:
- Left-brained person;
- Engineering and programming skills are compulsory;
- Methodological and logical set of mind;
- Builder of the web;
- Creates the inner workings of a website.
Have you already decided what you really need? Sure!
As for me, the difference is rather clear, but some people combine those two web-doers and totally don`t see the matter. What about your work experience with those two guys? Which concept do you prefer to agree with? And to which result did you come up with: are you looking for design, development or both?
